Sanada’s Strategy: Beyond Iga and Koga / 真田の戦略：伊賀・甲賀とは異なる「忍び」
When we think of Ninja, Iga and Koga are most famous. However, the Sanada clan, led by Masayuki and his son Yukimura (Nobushige), operated a unique and highly effective spy network. Unlike the Iga and Koga who acted as professional mercenary groups, Sanada’s ninja were often local low-ranking samurai and residents deeply loyal to the Sanada land. They didn’t just provide combat support; they were the ‘eyes and ears’ that allowed a small clan like Sanada to defeat the massive armies of the Tokugawa twice.
忍者といえば伊賀や甲賀が有名ですが、真田昌幸・幸村（信繁）父子が率いた真田軍も、独自の効果的な情報網を持っていました。プロの傭兵集団であった伊賀・甲賀とは異なり、真田の忍びは地元に根ざした下級武士や住民が多く、真田の土地に対して強い忠誠心を持っていました。彼らは単なる戦闘員ではなく、真田のような小大名が大軍を二度にわたって退けるための「目と耳」の役割を果たしたのです。
Masters of Deception / 虚実を操る情報戦の天才
Sanada Masayuki was a master of psychological warfare. He used his spies to spread rumors and false information, leading the enemy into traps. During the Siege of Ueda, his scouts provided real-time movements of the Tokugawa army, allowing Sanada to use the town’s geography as a weapon. This reflects a key difference: while Iga focused on ‘Shirotori’ (taking castles), Sanada’s ninja focused on ‘Area Intelligence’—knowing every path, river, and mountain in their territory to achieve victory against all odds.
真田昌幸は心理戦の達人でした。彼は忍びを使い、噂や偽情報を流して敵を罠に嵌めました。上田合戦では、偵察員が徳川軍の動きをリアルタイムで報告し、真田は町の地形そのものを武器として戦いました。ここには大きな違いがあります。伊賀が「城取り（攻城）」に特化していたのに対し、真田の忍びは「地域情報」に特化していました。自分たちの領地の道、川、山を知り尽くすことで、圧倒的な兵力差を覆したのです。
