The Kusarigama—a sickle attached to a long chain with a weight—is one of the most difficult weapons to master. It operates on the principle of centrifugal force. By swinging the weighted end, the user can strike an enemy from a distance or entangle their weapon and limbs. Once the enemy is neutralized by the chain, the sickle is used for the finishing blow. This hybrid design allowed a Shinobi to fight effectively against opponents with longer weapons like spears or naginata.
鎖鎌（鎌に分銅付きの長い鎖を繋いだもの）は、マスターするのが最も難しい武器の一つです。その基本原理は遠心力にあります。分銅側を振り回すことで、遠距離から敵を打撃するか、あるいは武器や手足を絡め取ります。鎖で無力化した後、鎌でトドメを刺すのです。このハイブリッドな設計により、忍びは槍や薙刀といった長柄の武器を持つ相手に対しても有利に戦うことができました。

Beyond combat, the chain of the Kusarigama served multiple purposes. It could be used as a climbing rope, a way to bind a prisoner, or even to secure a door from the inside. The weight at the end was not just for striking; it could be used as a sounding lead to check the depth of water or the presence of traps. The Kusarigama was a physical manifestation of the Ninja’s adaptability—turning a single tool into a multi-layered system for survival.
戦闘以外でも、鎖鎌の鎖は多目的に使われました。登攀用のロープ、捕虜の拘束、あるいは内側から扉を固定するためにも使われました。先端の分銅は打撃用だけでなく、水深を確認する重りや、罠の有無を調べる道具としても活用されました。鎖鎌は、忍びの「適応力」が形になったものであり、一つの道具を重層的な生存システムへと変えたのです。
