Popular culture depicts the ‘Ninja-to’ as a straight blade with a square guard. However, many historical experts believe that Ninja used shorter, slightly curved blades repurposed from broken samurai swords. These were designed for tight spaces like corridors and attics where a long katana would be useless. The square guard (Tsuba) was often oversized and reinforced so it could be used as a step to climb over walls, showing that for a Ninja, the sword was as much a ladder as it was a weapon.
